I’ve always watched the Eurovision Song Contest, ever since I’ve remembered. Part of that down to the genius satirical comments from Terry Wogan.
However last night’s Eurovision was the first not to feature Wogan as the UK’s commenter in 30 whole years. Wogan quit last year after England’s terrible performance claiming the competition had nothing to do about music any more. However Graham Norton did a good enough job.
A shame really as last nights show seemed to have started it’s new climb from political voting to actual full-hearted music loving voting. Of course there was still quite a bit of border-voting as countries in good relations and neighbours end up with the 12 points, but I noticed far less than usual.
I think the fact the UK ended up fifth is a clear indication. The song was good, not amazingly exciting or catchy like some of the others – namely the winning song from Norway (which i still have in my head) – but it was a very good recovery for the UK.
Ireland is yet to make their recovery, and as the country who has won it the most times, it’s about time we shaped up.
I don’t know if many people watch the semi finals as well, but anyone who saw Ireland’s past 3 years have been awful entry. I’m not too sure if this year’s was worse than that fecking Dustin the Turkey last year. You can see them both here and decide for yourself I reckon.
Owch they hurt my ears.

"They'll have to shoot me to stop it. I shall cling to the wreckage as long as I can." Terry Wogan On his covering the Eurovision for BBC
I can’t remember which country it was, but one was written by Ronan Keating and sounded exactly like a BoyZone rip off. That amused me greatly.
Did you vote this year?
I voted last year, but for Spain, because their person fell over and you could see her undies. Perv voting always works.
Ahh yeh I know the one but can’t remember the country either….
I didn’t vote, no. But I only usually do for Ireland or whoever else was really good, but this year I couldn’t really make my mind up.
Plus realllllyyy its my mum voting as its her phone bill aha, whereas I don’t want it added to my mobile phone bill.
Lovely perv voting, oh my.
